Along with Bulletproof Coffee and Keto Mocha, a sweet cup of hot cocoa is something I crave when the weather turns cold or after a day full of winter activities – like snowboarding, sledding or building snowmen. With this sugar-free, creamy hot cocoa recipe, I can feel comfortable giving my kids a big warm mug because I know they are only getting high quality ingredients that are good for them.

On the keto diet, gone are the days of grabbing a hot chocolate mix and adding hot water. To be honest, the old traditional way leaves so much to be desired! This hot chocolate makes use of real ingredients and surely hit the spot and firmly believe this is the best keto hot chocolate!

BTW…. This is the creamiest keto hot chocolate! Using two different low carb approved milks – heavy cream and nut milk – we are able to create a smooth and rich hot cocoa that you can cozy up to on a cold winter day.

    In a small bowl, whisk cocoa in ⅓ cup boiling water together. Set aside.

    Add the milks

    In a medium saucepan, mix together heavy cream, macadamia nut milk, monk fruit and salt. Simmer until combined, about 2 minutes. Whisk in cocoa mixture and chocolate chips until smooth.

    Remove from heat

    Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Pour into your serving mug and top with whipped cream.

Creamy low carb hot chocolate starts with two types of chocolate – cocoa powder and chocolate chips.

It’s important to look for 100% unsweetened cocoa powder for this low-carb hot chocolate. There are some cocoa powders on the market with sugar added. Look on the back of the package to make sure there is no additional fillers that may contain carbohydrates. Keto cocoa powder should have about 2 net carbs per serving.

The sugar-free chocolate chips I use are from ChocZero. I prefer their chocolate chips because they are sweetened with monk fruit and contain no sugar alcohols. You can save 10% off your order when you use my link. Another keto approved chocolate chip is by Lily’s. If you don’t have access to either of those keto chocolates, you can chop up a 100% unsweetened chocolate bar.

Although this keto hot cocoa can be made using heavy cream (2 cups), I prefer to thin it out a little bit by adding a cup of nut milk instead. The nut milk I prefer is macadamia nut milk and has no sweetener. It is creamy and is one of the better tasting nut milks that I have tried.

I like to top my hot chocolate with keto whipped cream. You can make your own by whipping heavy cream with a tablespoon of erythritol and a teaspoon of vanilla. Whip until thick and fluffy.

This keto hot chocolate recipe can also be made in the slow cooker. This is great for days you are out playing in the snow and want to come hot to a warm mug of keto cocoa.

To make keto cocoa in the slow cooker, add all the ingredients in the craft of the slow cooker. Heat it on high for 2 hours, then stir before serving.

In this recipe we use full heavy whipping cream, which by itself is about as creamy as it can get. It is so creamy, we water it down with macadamia nut milk. In order to make it more creamier, use less to no macadamia nut milk.
