Oh, tis the season… for 102 Gluten Free Cookie Recipes!

Well, you might be reading this post in July, and it will be just as awesome, I promise. But there is something about December that brings out the Cookie Monster in me.

I swear I can pass up cakes and pies and fudge and flan… but when it comes to little, crumbly bites of sugary bliss, I’m dead in the water. I’m goo in the sand. I’m pied to the piper.

It doesn’t matter that they are gluten free. I’m still puddy in the cookies’ hands.

And a quick note before you start pouring through these guys, If a recipie has a blend of what appears to be light flours, I’ll usually just add them all up for volume and use my trusty Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour.

I buy it in bulk from Amazon because the price is better. I’ve included my affiliate link below for easy purchasing right from this post!

No more delaying…

FAQs

How can I improve my gluten-free cookie texture? ›

You need a binding agent in your gluten-free cookies recipe; otherwise, your cookies will fall apart. Some flour blends may already contain a binding agent, so double-check the list of ingredients. If it doesn't, you can add flaxseeds, xanthan gum, or guar gum.

How to make gluten-free cookies less dry and crumbly? ›

Add extra liquid: Gluten-free flours tend to absorb more liquid than regular flour, so you may need to add more liquid to your recipes to compensate. This can help to keep your baked goods moist and prevent them from becoming dry and crumbly.

What is the number 1 Christmas cookie? ›

Based on this data from General Mills, Peanut Butter Blossoms are the most popular Christmas cookie in the country; it's the most-visited cookie recipe in seven states, which means it's the most common favorite cookie in the U.S. That's a pretty high honor!

Why are my gluten-free cookies dry? ›

Gluten-free baked goods have earned the reputation of being dry and gritty. That grit—that evil grit! —is the result of gluten-free flours that are often high in starches and rice flour, which take longer to absorb moisture than regular “gluten” flour.

What is the best flour for gluten-free cookies? ›

What's the best gluten-free flour for baking? Bob's Red Mill gluten-free 1-to-1 baking mix is my favorite gluten-free all-purpose flour blend for baking. It has a mild texture and plenty of "stick" thanks to a blend of sweet rice flour, brown rice flour, and sorghum flour, plus some starches and xanthan gum.

Should you chill gluten free cookie dough before baking? ›

5- Chill your dough well before baking.

It reduces stickiness of gluten free doughs and also can enhance the flavor, but again, it's not necessary with gfJules Flour or Cookie Mixes. If you find your cookies are too crispy for your liking, do not chill the dough before baking.

What holds gluten-free cookies together? ›

Binding agents (such as xanthan gum, guar gum, or flax) help give gluten-free baked goods the elasticity needed to create structure — so if your favorite gluten-free flour mix doesn't contain one, you'll probably want to add one.

What is the trick to baking with gluten free flour? ›

Gluten-free flours often contain fine starches, so they absorb more liquid than conventional flour. To address this, gluten-free recipes usually call for more liquid and produce looser batters. They may also call for a larger quantity of leavening, like baking powder, to help add volume and lighten the texture.

How to get rid of grittiness in gluten-free cookies? ›

Let the batter or dough "rest" 30 minutes before baking. This gives the flours time to absorb moisture and soften, minimizing that gritty texture.

What is the least popular Christmas cookie? ›

On the naughty list of cookies, Americans gave the lowest win records to anise cookies, which only won 29% of its matchups.

What is the most eaten cookie in the world? ›

Should I add xanthan gum to gluten-free cookies? ›

Using xanthan gum helps provide some of the stickiness that gluten free goods lack, replacing some elasticity. Xanthan gum mimics some of gluten's most essential properties by sticking to flour and its moisture. This helps create moist goods that hold their shape after being baked.

How do you improve the texture of gluten-free cookies? ›

Use a Binder. Binders like xanthan gum and guar gum provide structure in gluten-free baking to make up for the missing gluten. This prevents cookies from being too crumbly plus it also helps with freshness.

Why do gluten-free cookies taste weird? ›

Flavor Differences

All gluten-free flours have a different taste. Some gluten-free flours are naturally sweet, some are nutty, while others have a strong flavor. When you're just getting started baking gluten-free, experiment with as many different flours as you can.

How do you improve cookie texture? ›

Chill Your Cookie Dough

Not only will the flavors intensify, but the texture will also improve, so your cookies will bake up nice and thick and chewy. This is due in part to the fact that the flour will have a longer period to absorb moisture within the dough.

How to improve the texture of the baked products made using gluten-free flour? ›

Hold gluten-free dough at least 1/2 hour (up to overnight) in the refrigerator to soften and improve the final texture of the product. In products made with rice flour or corn meal, mix with the liquid called for in the recipe. Bring to a boil and cool before adding to recipe to help reduce grainy texture.

How to make gluten-free not gritty? ›

Let Your Batters & Doughs Rest

This will give flours and starches time to absorb liquid, which will prevent your recipes from developing a gritty, sandy texture. We recommend covering your batters and doughs and letting them rest for at least half an hour.
